F.A. Entertainment and LG Productions presents the 4th Annual Dixie Film Festival this October 12-13, 2007 in Historic Athens, GA.
The festival now in its fourth year had hailed from Atlanta its previous three seasons and showcased films from all around the world including World Premieres for over 50 films.
Last year alone Dixie screened over 40 films from the US and other countries and welcomed filmmakers in from five states including New York and Los Angeles.
Legendary Actor James Best was honored this previous season with “The Magnolia Award” for Lifetime Achievement in Filmmaking. The festival is scheduled to announce its 2007 Lifetime Award recipient after the call for entries has closed in September.
Last years winner for “Best Foreign Film” Binta & The Great Idea went on to be nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Short Film" four months later at the 79 Annual Academy Awards.
The Fourth Annual Dixie Film Festival will be hosted by Carmike Cinemas on Lexington Rd. with additional venues in downtown Athens for multiple screenings.
One of Dixie’s highlights every year is its “Mason-Dixon” Screenings honoring current films & filmmakers in Georgia concluding with the “Mason-Dixon Award” for Outstanding Georgia Filmmaker.
When asked why Dixie made the move to Athens, the festival Director Randy McDowell and Producer Justin Carter (an Athens' native) said,
“well we’ve had it in Atlanta the last three years and we’ve grown every year, but we’ve had a few different filmmakers both local and from LA mentioning they would love a festival in Athens. And seeing how our office is located here we decided to give it some thought. Things fell together and we realized we needed to have it in our own backyard. Plus we all agreed Athens was more conducive to the Arts & Entertainment. We hope the Athens community enjoys and supports the great films we’re bringing to the area. This year's film selection will be our best to date."
The festival’s Call For Entries is still currently open and welcomes filmmakers and screenwriters to submit their project before one of the three final deadlines.
Previous years guests have included, James Best, Director/Actor, Grammy Winner Michael Damian and his wife Janeen; Emmy-Award Winning Director Arthur Seidelman, and five films that have gone on for distribution deals and theatrical releases due to its screening and/or awards from the Dixie Film Festival.
